So, since I haven’t written in several days, I’m going to shake off the rust with a random post. Last week was vacation week. Drove all over the Front Range of Colorado and did various activities ranging from hiking to TopGolf to jigsaw puzzles. And along the way certain things struck me, but not enough for them to have their own post. Thus, I present bulleted thoughts…
- As we drove, we listened to a lot of SiriusXM. There’s a DJ (should they be FJs, for file jockeys, now?) by the name of Kristine Stone who is on quite often on The Spectrum. She sounds almost exactly like the actress Wendy McLendon-Covey (in particular, Deputy Clementine Johnson from Reno 911!). It weirds me out every time she speaks on air. Has anyone else noticed this?
- Breckenridge, CO visitor center has the softest public restroom toilet paper I’ve ever used. I was honestly astonished.
- The Denver Zoo is ALWAYS BUSY. Even on a weekday at open. Busloads of kids on field trips are to be expected. What I didn’t expect was the amount of random families with school-aged children? Do people take their kids out of school to go to the zoo?
- We went out for a late lunch on Friday after the zoo (like 2p). The restaurant was full. Families with children and groups of adults drinking (alcohol, but that sounds square when I add it non-parenthetically). I didn’t quite understand it. Has Friday just stopped being a work and school day (I checked the school calendar – it wasn’t a day off)?
- Heard the latest The Killers song, “Your Side of Town” several times while driving. Here’s a question for you – Is it a Pet Shop Boys song or is it a New Order song?
- My hibachi mouth-catch streak has been broken. I was 8/8, but I missed on last week. Got the second, but still, a humiliation. LOL
- If you’re in Colorado and haven’t had a chance to visit the Paint Mines Interpretive Park, please do so. It’s free and a really cool way to spend 2-3 hours.
- How many times do you have to listen to a song to determine if you like it or are just ambivalent about it? If it’s more than three, do you just throw it in the ambivalent bin?
- It’s a little jarring to see the Stanley Hotel (of “The Shining” fame) surrounded by retail. Even though I’ve seen the hotel several times now, I always want it to be out in the middle of nowhere. Doesn’t seem right to see it looming over a Safeway grocery store!
Anyway, this is a crazy post. Just needed to get the juices flowing again! I’m hoping to post a short story later this week. Fingers crossed!
